  • Overview

    The Senior HR Manager for Transcontinental Advanced Coatings has global responsibility for developing and directing the HR strategy for the Advanced Coatings Business Unit of Transcontinental. This position has primary responsibility for all aspects of plant HR activities in Matthews, NC and oversight responsibility for HR activities at the Wrexham, UK and Guangzhou, CN facilities. This includes managing the local impact of US benefit plans including the health & welfare and retirement plans.  The incumbent is responsible for all employee and labor relations issues, either directly in Matthews or via the plant HR teams in remote locations.  This position will also direct the plants in all aspects of the Human Resource function including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, training and terminating employees, addressing employee performance issues and coaching employees on how to overcome them, updating and developing policies as necessary and ensuring that the organization is adhering to all corporate policies and procedures, and developing and implementing communications strategies.

    Responsibilities

    • Serves as member of Advanced Coatings leadership team to direct HR strategies which support business objectives and promote positive employee relations.
    • Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
    • Ensures compliance to corporate policies and procedures. Provides coaching and counseling to employees.
    • Manages local impact of employee benefits and administration, local open enrollment, and assisting employees with benefit-related questions/issues.
    • Develop and deliver HR related communication materials to the Matthews facility in coordination with the business unit strategy.
    • Handles local labor relations issues in a timely, positive and collaborative manner (grievances, arbitrations, contract negotiations, working relationships with internal union stewards and local/national union official
    • Oversees payroll function in Matthews to ensure timely and accurate payment of wages to all associates.
    • Coordinates with and supports operations team and corporate HR to develop and implement detailed training programs for hourly production associates and salaried associates.
    • Works with plants and VP of HR to respond to any legal HR issues that arise.
    • Enforces HR policies in conjunction with business objectives.
    • Hires and train HR staff members at plant locations; supervise and direct any HR staff locally.
    • Assists in interviews and screens candidates for plant or Business Unit positions; prepares compensation package proposals and offer letters; coordinates onboarding activities for hourly and salaried associates.
    • Provides advice and counsel to plant management on addressing employee performance issues at all locations.
    • Facilitates and supports Safety, Health and Environmental Manager in managing safety incidents (workers’ comp reporting, incident investigation support, etc.) and operator training when needed.
    • Drives overhaul of the operator and salaried team training program including identification of gaps in training program, partnering with operations team to develop standard training modules, implementation of LMS in 2019 and recommendations for improvement at all levels
    • Manages employee engagement activities including monthly and annual employee events, coffee meetings with leadership, and regular engagement surveys as needed and/or dictated by corporate.
    • Facilitates development of programs to address key business needs/opportunities as identified by the senior team

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science (required);
    • Master of Business Administration or Master of Human Resources (preferred)
    • OR 10+ years of progressive human resources experience in the manufacturing sector;
    • Experience leading teams and managing departmental budgets;
    • Experience in a union environment is a plus
